In the ten years of its existence the theatre has several times changed its name and its address. For a few years it had the status of a theatre-studio. But one thing has remained constant throughout these changes - the team of actors and their director, Sergei Afanasiev, all of whom have always been united by a kindred spirit.
Today, Sergei Afanasiev's theatre holds a prominent position in the cultural life of the city, and the credit for it goes to the hard-working and talented company which forms it Directed by Sergei Afanasiev

Sergei Afanasiev had begun his career with amateur companies, and a successful beginning it had been too. In 1987, he formed his own professional theatre-studio, with the graduates of the Novosibirsk Drama School as his cast. His best production of that time was The Card Index by T.Rozewicz (which won him an award of the 1989 Festival of Polish Drama). In 1991, Sergei Afanasiev directed a film The Stinker. In 1995, with the support of the mayor's office, he formed a Centre of Amateur Theatres. A winner of many contests and festivals, Afanasiev is now presenting what the critics have declared to be the best production in the repertory of his theatre (a repertory, which features Shakespeare, Tolstoy, Krommelinck, Vampilov and Harms) - Uncle Vanya by Chekhov.
